Glad to see it's back. One of the few hopes for control decks.

I love this spell dearly, it's helped me win so many games. Never seen somebody whip out a hired killer so fast as when I put this onto Zao as an open during his turn 3. I'm pretty optimistic about Phoenix for the upcoming environment, although that could just be because I'm a fairly new player

I'm really glad to see this back. Touch of Ice is one of my favorite control spells.

BTW great banner Isawa Rikiya and welcome to our clan Thanks for the compliment, and the welcome Yeah, I started playing L5R about 2 and a half months ago and I loved the sound of Phoenix as soon as somebody gave me a brief description of each clan, luckily GotE had a Phoenix starter too! I've got to the point where I can beat most of the guys at my local store at least some of the time, (some guys I nearly always beat), except a couple of really strong guys who run Oni and Spider decks. Feels good to be back on more of an 'even footing' now that Celestial is in and there aren't loads of people with old power rares that are tough to get hold of. I was wondering - who's planning to run The Winds Favour as well as or in place of Touch of Ice? The cost is putting me off a bit, as well as the possibility to avoid it by not assigning and moving in... but on the other hand, we have War Encampment and straightening the performing shugenja after it triggers is pretty nice, especially on a cav shug who can then still assign to the battle...

Yeah I don’t like its 4g cost either. However it’s one of the only non holding honour gain cards that once you pay its gold cost, your gold is free to use again afterwards. I think it’s a “you use what you’ve got” kind of thing. But, that’s not totally true, because I am not using it right now, but I keep thinking about it.. yes, they can get around it, but I think they will be too busy using their movement cards to try and get by the stronghold. I am currently using both in my Phoenix Honor deck. I try to put The Wind's Favor on Isawa Itsuoko because if they attack, if frees her up to use it for her bow ability. It might work well on Isawa Kakajima as well.
Really, any personality that has "Battle: Bow one of this shugenja's spells:" or "While this shugenja has a spell attached" is a good personality to put The Wind's Favor on. It will have already done it's thing (given you honor) so bowing it for the shugenja's ability is not a bad thing. This is just in case we get more in the furute.

Winds Favour has two draw backs, it is only when assigning and it does nothing against the honour match up. Which is the bigger problem as I see it.

Well, ToI does not help in the honormatchup either*, so no big loss there.
If you're running War encampment anyways, I'd run it. Even then its abit expensive (not goldwise, but opportunitywise - you could also play an actioncard gaining honor/preventing dishonor/preserving your provinces instead)
W/o War encampment it's just too expensive as normally the Shugneja straightening and thus defending is dead if he defends.
*He just bows 2 dudes - as you wont attack him and he does not need to attack you, it's no problem to find 2 spuds.

With Touch of Death about to whittle away bowed people and the speed at which the two decks will gain Honour being able to throw out Touch of Ice can really mess with a Crane deck. He either stops his tricks or lets you gain honour and at some points he may well run out of people to bow. It is useful enough, not great mind you, but it gives you some options.
