Chuckles: I'm not ready to jump out of my pants over this card yet either but: A 3 force for 3 gold ratio is really good right now especially when it can't be countered by Shameful Injury, Justly Earned Victory, Wrath of Thunder, Low Stance, etc...
We also have a multitude of ways to unbow our people: Servitors of Stone, Dance of the Kami, Heavenly Yari of the Phoenix, Suitengu's Gateway, Ring of Air, Rejuvenating Vapors. You could even run Celestial Alignment.
This card turns Nakajima into a solid Retribution threat, makes many of our personalities into solid Retribution threats while on a Shugenja at home and doesn't actually scream "Hey, I've got a Retribution in hand" if we attach it as an open action out of City of Tears.
My biggest problem playing Phoenix military is coming up with enough force to take provinces. I usually have to dedicate fate slots to solving that problem anyways. Having something that solves that problem and avoids most of my opponent's potential responses to that is good.

we dont need more PS manipulation, we need spells that are good midrange and not blitz. Please support mid range shuggy/spells.

This card is perfect for mid game military.
Early on it lets you ignore attacks while you build. Later on it helps ensure you take provinces. I've been running a mid game military deck lately and the most important cards in it are the ones that have dual offensive/defensive capabilities. Direct approach is a perfect example of the kind of card that really enables a later game military deck. This card will definitely make its way into my yojimbo/shuggenja build along with the new stronghold.

It *never* lets you "ignore attacks while you build," as you still need presence at that battlefield to use the ability.
And if you're opposing someone to save a province, there are 38120429420420 better actions to take than "3G Early Game, +4PS, no honor gain, no unit removal, not even saving my own guy from your next action... your action."

You might be forgetting it works well with Cavalry. Your Cavalry Shugenja attacks, your infantry Shugenja casts this from home.
Groves of Stone has its uses.

i think this spell is incredibly versatile. i'll be posting my two new decks tonight, one eligntenment one blitz, and they both contain this spell. during my first release tournament i put two on asako mokichi and neutered a mantis deck for several turns. i lost, but certainly not because of this spell. i think it will actually prove more useful in lowering PS in constructed. at least that is my hope. either way, this and "let none draw near" are big winners in my book.
